AT&T Job Shadow

Date

Lookout Valley High School students participated in JA Job Shadow with AT&T on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Twenty-three students from Mrs. Wilma Lockery’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) class were paired with AT&T employees.

The day began with a welcome to the students and volunteers from Dan Sparks of AT&T. Students and their volunteers toured the AT&T building on Martin Luther King Boulevard. After the tour students visited the volunteers’ desks to see where AT&T employees work while in the building. The students were also able to go out into the field with AT&T employees to work sites, and then returned to the AT&T building where lunch was provided by Mitch Collins of Chick-fil-A on Gunbarrel; followed by a debriefing session where the students wrote thank you notes to their AT&T volunteers. Thank you to Joey Borders who coordinated the AT&T/JA Job Shadow.

This opportunity was made possible to JA from a grant through the AT&T Foundation and JA Worldwide focusing on the JA Job Shadow initiative to reach 100,000 high school students over the next five years. The goals of the initiative are to decrease the high school drop out rates across the country, and to increase the talent pipeline for corporate America. We are grateful to be a part of this five year grant and look forward to working with AT&T in the future.
